In the Wasatch, I'm used to frantic powder competition (even midweek). It's not uncommon for things to get completely tracked out by lunch **while it's snowing**. Not the case here. The day wore on, it kept snowing, decent powder turned deep. Then deeper.
Going in spring/summer is a nice get-away experience to walk on the mountain and see nature, lots of creeks running down the mountain the puffer lake is pretty and quiet and this is the place where I've seen most deers.
Needless to say, first chance I get, I'll be heading back down.
After a few weeks of rain up in the Wasatch, I decided to follow the snow and head south last Sunday. I wasn't disappointed. Eighteen laps on Lookout, all of them tree runs, each one slightly different than the last. Oh and that gully...
Gem of a place. No waiting in lift lines, mid mountain food is decent and half of other resorts. Cost of a two room condo is amazing and comparable to low-end motel chains. Been there a few times will continue to go back.
Lodging was nice, although the balcony was missing many post on the fence. Came furnished with dishes and plenty of wood pellets for the furnace, which would be nice in the winter I visited during the summer and the rooms do not have AC. The grounds of resort were rustic and the pavement needed work in a few places, but was nice overall. The restaurant was a bit airy but had a bit of a cabin or lodge feel to it. I enjoyed the magazine excerpts they had frame and on display. They also had a few games available for guests to play. As far as food goes, the chicken was dry and not too flavorful. The salmon, on the other hand, was excellent and rather succulent. Cell phone service in the resort itself it available on a basic level but not much for data connections. The overall quality of the stay was nice and I would like to see how the slopes are in the winter.
This resort is the best place you could hope to go, if you're looking for disappointment lack luster accommodations. Dinner was both inconsistent and unimpressive. Most of us ordering the house special prime rib were greeted with plates with either potatoes or asparagus on them, some with both, and some of us got to wait 40 minutes for any food at all. The waitress forgot our order after writing it down, and came back to ask us what we had ordered again. Unfortunately my grandmother didn't remember everyone's order and my brother and I were skipped. Once everyone had received their food and ate, some went back home, only then did I get my food. $25 for lukewarm prime rib and 7 yellow potato halves? Sounds like a bargain to me.... once the meal was done the bill came. We requested my meal be removed seeing as it was a huge wait time and frankly terrible. The Lodge did us one better. 10% off of one of our meals. Great customer service fitting of their food. In the end, it would have been better to have a 5 year old make me a sandwich than to pay those people any sum of money for an uncomfortable evening. Thanks for nothing Eagle Point!
